What’s in your policy?

We’ve seen many valued customers run into issues because of inadequate insurance coverage — from not having rental car benefits to being stuck with low-quality replacement parts. By learning from the experiences of others, you can take steps now to ensure your repair process goes smoothly — with less stress and fewer surprises.

Here are a few important tips to consider when reviewing or updating your auto insurance policy:

1. Make Sure You Have Rental Car Coverage

Including rental coverage in your policy is one of the smartest (and most affordable) decisions you can make. For just a few extra dollars a year, you’ll avoid paying out-of-pocket for a rental car if your vehicle is in the shop after an accident. We recommend choosing at least $50/day in rental coverage, especially if you drive a larger vehicle. This helps ensure that you're not stuck paying the difference between your allowance and the actual rental cost.

2. Understand Your Parts Policy: OEM vs. Aftermarket

Not all replacement parts are created equal. Insurance companies typically offer two types of parts coverage:

  • OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer): Parts made by your vehicle’s manufacturer.

  • Aftermarket: Cheaper parts made by third-party companies, not your vehicle’s manufacturer.

If your policy only covers aftermarket parts, your insurance company will only pay for those — even if you prefer OEM parts. For quality, safety, and fit, we strongly recommend choosing a policy that covers OEM parts.

3. Do Your Research Before Choosing an Insurance Company

It may be tempting to go with the cheapest policy, but that low cost can come at a high price. Some insurance providers won’t pay for your full repair, leaving you stuck with the bill.
